Keswick and the North Lake District

Appletree cottage is conveniently located for exploring the nothern Lake District by foot, cycle, car or public transport. The town of Keswick is 10 minutes away and has a range of attractions, parks, galleries, individual shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Nearby Bassenthwaite Lake is a National Nature Reserve and home to a variety of wildlife, including its world famous ospreys, otters and waterfowl. Derwentwater, with its rocky coves and islands is just to the south of Keswick, and a short drive away are the other lakes, such as Thirlmere, Buttermere or Crummock Water or the great Lakeland mountains of Great Gable, Scafell or Helvellyn.

There are many activities available here; walking, climbing, cycling, kayaking, wind surfing, golf and so on, but for those who like simply to relax and enjoy the scenery, the views in this part of the Lake District are outstanding.
